Air suspension for Land Rovers and Range rovers!
Power reaches the wheels through a four-speed automatic gearbox. Land Rovers and Range rovers air suspension are noted for their mountain-goat ability to traverse almost any kind of terrain. Powerjection II features “adaptive learning technology”, which means the unit tunes itself to the optimum air/fuel ratio, learning and adapting to your engine’s needs and your driving style. This advanced technology eliminates the need for laptop programming, just fire up your engine and drive for 20-minutes. Power isn?t generous without the optional supercharger, but the HSE?s V8 sounds really good. Finally, the Sport handles a lot better than our 2005 LR3, which shares this truck?s platform.
Power-folding exterior mirrors are new for ‘08. Power is delivered through a six-speed automatic transmission, which has a Sport mode for maximum acceleration and Command Shift mode for manual shift control. The permanent four-wheel-drive system uses an infinitely variable locking center differential to vary the torque distribution front-to-back.
Off-road capability is aided by its impressive suspension articulation and angles of approach, ramp break-over and departure. It doesn’t offer quite the amazing capabilities of the Range Rover or LR2 , but we climbed rock faces nearing a 45-degree gradient with minimal tire slippage, thanks to the all-terrain traction control. Off-road enthusiasts may think the lack of a fold-down windshield keeps the Range Rover Sport in the soft-road class, but this tank enhances its locking differentials with an air suspension that moves it into high-clearance mode. Terrain programs fine-tune the Range Rover’s handling for the slippery and jagged. Off-road performance is astounding. Other SUVs and 4×4s beat the occupants up as they bounce from side to side on rough uneven terrain.
