If you are interested in news reviews and I asked you to define general information seen on a common topic, what would you consider? Come on. Tell me. Want me to guess? You see general reports as news that is new and is posted for the general public including marketing for people in general interested in books, or, you may imagine general news as international news that everyone in the world can attempt to understand. For example, the current oil spill is general news as it involved so many countries, or maybe the past slow-down, since it affected more than half of the nations in the whole world. If you presume that, then you are correct with what you consider general news.

For a much better description, general news is a sort of news that is created for the general public. This means, everybody can read it. As an author, it is hard to write common news that is as you must research on topics that not only people in a particular area can relate to, but people all throughout the world can connect with. The two mentioned above are clear, since a lot of countries are affected. However, it is not every day that a bank mishandles its funds, or when an oil spill occurs, threatening almost half of the population of the world’s marine organisms.

So, as a columnist who is tasked to write general news, you need to think carefully on what you are going to write about, and you need to do extensive research first. This is due to the fact that your audience is the whole world, there is no room for mistake, and if you cause one, or write something that is incorrect, then it will definitely affect the magazine that you are writing for.

In general, when writing news and answers, you should be careful of two very simple things, your focus area and relation to the entire world. So, whatever happened in Hawaii that isn’t something most important isn’t worthwhile for general news.
